Look, there's this guy...

On an Internet inhabited by freaks, assholes, and nut jobs of all descriptions, this guy stands in a class by himself. Wearing a dunce cap.

I ran across this, posted to a Libertarian-Conservative blog, when a friend found it too funny not to share on Facebook. I have to agree. It's not that I find his extremist views all that distressing; they can easily be ignored. It's what he's doing about them that pegs the Assholery meter.

(But let me show you what I'm talking about. Here's his original article.)

His name is Eric Dondero and he has run this particular blog for a while, but the election of Obama seems to have pushed him off the deep end. (Or, if he already was off the deep end, down the drain.) He wrote that he wasn't going to be running his blog anymore, in order to pursue his higher calling. Which seems to be a one-man war against all things Progressive. (Or liberal, or Democratic...basically he appears to be at war with everyone that doesn't think the way he does. According to the election results, that's currently most of us.)

But on to his "final" blog post...

You've got to respect a guy who says right up front what he stands for. He begins with (and I quote): "Time to tell any Democrats you know to fuck off and die." Thanks, Eric. I'm working on it. I love you too.

He encourages his readers to "Express your hatred, shame, and outright disgust with anyone you know who voted Democrat" and he outlines the steps he has taken/intends to take toward this lofty ideal: "...a personal boycott, if you will...I am going to un-friend every single individual on Facebook who voted for Obama, or I even suspect may have Democrat leanings." Yeah, that'll show us.

"All family and friends, even close family and friends, who I know to be Democrats are hereby dead to me. I vow never to speak to them again for the rest of my life, or have any communications with them." I wonder if they see it as any kind of loss?

"They are in short, the enemies of liberty. They deserve nothing less than hatred and utter contempt." It's a sad life, Eric. People don't usually get what they deserve. But I will gladly accept your hatred and contempt; it would be impolite to refuse such a valuable gift.

"I strongly urge all other Libertarians to do the same." You hear that, Aaron C.? This means that you have been told to "unfriend" me. Well, if you must you must; I promise not to take it personally.

He plans to tell "...all of my friends and family who voted for Obama to 'fuck off, don't ever speak to me again you slimeball mother fuckers.'" (Eric, I think "motherfuckers" is one word. Not that I want to nit-pick...)

He goes on to play homewrecker (odd stance for a conservative, don't you think?) by asking his readers to leave their wives and girlfriends if they voted for Obama.

And to quit their jobs if they have bosses that voted for Obama. And to shun coworkers who have voted for Obama. And to tell clients who voted "wrong" to take their business elsewhere. And to boycott family functions if there are any Democrats in attendance.

Gee...do you think he's serious?

Then he said something curious. In the section called "Boycott businesses who accept Welfare payments" he explains the method he uses to shame anyone who pays with an EBT card (foodstamps and welfare payments are all done on EBT cards, now). He apparently does this whenever he goes to Wal-Mart. So...he's calling for a boycott of businesses that he is still patronizing? I assume he only goes in there to buy razor blades; he probably goes through a lot of them, shaving those two faces...

(Sidebar: Eric, have you thought this "boycott" thing through? Could Wal-Mart survive if they stopped accepting foodstamps and welfare? Could any major cost-cutting retailer do that? Is there going to be an exception for the handicapped? For wounded vets? For single-parent households where the parent works all they can but still can't afford basic necessities? Enquiring minds want to know!)

Kidding aside for a moment...I am not sure what Eric expects to accomplish with all of this. I really can't imagine Eric's "war" claiming any casualties beyond his personal relationship themselves. As far as I can see, all he's managed to do is the equilivalent of standing on a chair and waiving his arms while shouting, "LOOK AT ME! I'M AN ASSHOLE!" (That, and making it irresistible for people like me to make fun of him.)

But beyond what he did there's why he did it...he doesn't actually say. Perhaps he thinks it's self-evident. It isn't, not to me anyway. All I got was that he's doing all this because he's disappointed with the election results.

This is a fairly long article, but it was originally much longer. I'm afraid that I succumbed to my natural vitriolic bent; the first draft was much nastier. Yes, I left it a little nasty, but I trashed a lot of stuff I could be proud of for its cleverness but not for its meanness. My article is nowhere near as nasty as Eric's; shorter, too. Eric doesn't seem to possess the ability to edit himself. Or maybe he simply lacks the will to do so. Even so, in an Internet world where damn near everyone goes too far Eric can't even see "too far" in his rear-view mirror.

One last quote. He says, "I am going to do far more of this in my life. It's going to be my personal crusade." Hey, everybody needs a hobby. Mine is holding extremist douche-bags up to public ridicule.

As long as we have each other, Eric...
